World Energy Council India (WEC India) organized a workshop on ‘Electricity sector planning & policy’ in association with the International Energy Agency (IEA) from 4th –6th  November 2025 at IEA Headquarters, Paris, France.

The session commenced with welcome addresses by Mr.Tim Gould, Chief Energy Economist, IEA; Ms. Sangeeta Kaushik, Executive Director, WEC India and Executive Director (Corporate Planning), NTPC, who addressed the gathering via video message; Ms. Mary Warlick, IEA Deputy Executive Director, and Mr. Toshihide Aotake, Division Head for Asia-Pacific Partnerships, IEA

Ms. Kavita Jadhav, India Programme Manager, IEA, Mr. Shayak Sengupta, India Programme Officer, IEA, and Mr. Vivek Kumar Gupta, In Charge, WEC India Secretariat and AGM, Corporate Planning, NTPC, provided an overview of the workshop agenda and objectives.

 

The workshop featured sessions led by IEA experts including Mr. Thomas Spencer, Mr. Siddharth Singh, Mr. Heymi Bahar, Mr. Jacques Warichet, Mr. Rodrigo Barbosa (ENTSO-E), Mr. Max Schoenfisch, Mr. Carlos Fernández Alvarez, Mr. Dennis Hesseling, Mr. Eren Cam, Mr. Isaac Portugal, and Ms. Cecilia Tam. The technical sessions focused on key areas such as renewable energy integration, transmission planning for a renewables-rich grid, advancements in energy storage, and financing mechanisms for the power sector.

The program was attended by 17 participants from 7 organisations – WEC India, NTPC Limited, REC Limited, GAIL (India) Limited, PTC India Limited, NHPC Limited, and Power Grid, providing a platform for in-depth discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration between Indian stakeholders and global experts as India continues to lead the way in shaping a sustainable and resilient power sector.
