Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field from a recognized University, preferably with advanced certification in Data Science. A postgraduate degree or MBA is preferred.
Experience:
- 1-5 years of experience in energy systems/scenarios, energy modelling, data analysis, and statistical methods. Experience with multi-disciplinary teams in a reputable energy firm will be a plus.
- Proven experience in the energy sector with knowledge of energy systems, markets, and regulatory frameworks, and an understanding of conventional and low carbon energy technologies.
- Experience with data visualization tools and GIS software is desirable.
Skills and Requirements:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB, and knowledge of Office Suite and Power BI, Tableau is desirable.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of data analytics and modelling tools like MARKAL, TIMES.
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of basic statistical concepts and the ability to handle large datasets.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate flexibility in fulfilling assignments.
- Ability to constantly scan the global and national energy sector landscape and stay updated on key issues impacting the energy sector, including low-carbon energy pathways.
Job Responsibilities:
A. Scenarios Work
- Develop robust methodologies for gathering, processing, and structuring data from reliable internal and external sources.
- Develop modelling frameworks to translate data, policy, and technology developments into model inputs for energy scenarios. Project key model input variables, including energy commodity production, consumption, installed capacities, and techno-economics for various technologies in different energy and industrial sectors across different timeframes.
- Develop, use, and maintain energy models. Interpret large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and insights, and analyze potential energy, technology, and emission pathways across different sectors of the economy, including net-zero.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and integrate data from various sources.
- Conduct scenario analysis and risk assessments to evaluate the impact of variables on energy systems.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements and trends in energy modelling and data analytics.
- Assist in preparing inputs for energy policies, strategies, and plans based on model outputs and insights.
B. Insights & Publications
- Scan the global and national energy sector landscape, identify relevant issues of interest and concern to stakeholders, conduct analysis, and produce high-quality brief insights reports at a given frequency. Prepare visualizations and presentations to complement the analysis and reports as required.
- Contribute to working papers, outlook reports, whitepapers, deep dives, etc., in addition to brief Insights reports.
C. Others
- Participate in project planning and execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely, and transfer knowledge to team members.
