Energy and Technology need assessment for India under 2070 – Net Zero Pathway

 

India ranks third globally in energy consumption, despite its per capita energy usage being only one-third of the global average. India’s contribution to annual global emissions is less than 7%, even though it accounts for around 17% of the world’s population. With a growing population of over 1.4 billion and strong economic growth, India is expected to remain one of the largest energy consumers in absolute terms for the foreseeable future. This presents a significant dual challenge for the country: meeting its rising energy demands while addressing environmental concerns to sustain economic growth.

NATIONAL ENERGY TRILEMMA INDEX 2024

 

In recent years, India has achieved a significant milestone in the areas of energy access and renewable capacity expansion by surpassing 200 GW in renewable energy capacity, reflecting its steadfast commitment to sustainable energy expansion. At the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, India advocated for tripling climate finance to developing nations, emphasising the necessity of accessible green funding to combat climate change effectively.

National Energy Trilemma Index 2023

The National Energy Trilemma Index 2023 is an attempt by World Energy Council India (WEC India) at the national level to assess performance of Indian States & UTs across three core energy related dimensions: Energy Security, Energy Equity and Environmental Sustainability and a fourth dimension of ‘state context’. The “National Energy Trilemma Index” is expected to enable the States & UTs to keep track of their own progress over time and further accelerate their pace towards the energy transition process. The Report is developed in partnership with Deloitte.
