INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION AND OUTREACH

WEC India offers enhanced international outreach to its members. With large Indian corporate of today transforming themselves into global giants, WEC India facilitates global outreach through WEC global dialogue platforms and programs. WEC global network provide access to over 3000 organizations worldwide through the WEC Members in around 70 countries.

World Energy Congress

The World Energy Congress is the biennial (earlier triennial) flagship event of the World Energy Council. The World Energy Congress is an opportunity for stakeholders to better understand complex and highly interwoven energy issues and solutions from a global perspective. The World Energy Congress provides a platform for Ministers, Secretaries, and CEOs from the country for deliberations and engagement with global peers. The mega exhibition held during the Congress is an excellent opportunity to showcase the country’s energy sector. Considering the global nature of energy issues and dynamics involved, the Indian energy sector has been significantly utilizing these platforms. 

26th World Energy Congress

The centennial edition of the 26th World Energy Congress was held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, from April 22nd to 25th, 2024, under the theme ‘Redesigning Energy for People and Planet’. The event featured over 60 impactful sessions with contributions from thought leaders, policymakers, creative thinkers, disruptors, and emerging energy leaders. With nearly 4,000 attendees, including 350 speakers, 70 ministers, and 15 mayors, the congress offered a dynamic and information-rich program. A unique exhibition, featuring more than 90 exhibitors, provided a platform for key industry leaders to showcase the latest innovations and engage in meaningful conversations with the global energy community.

The Indian delegation, led by the Secretary (Power), included representatives from key organizations such as ONGC, NTPC, PFC, REC, Power Grid, NHPC, IREDA, and SECI. This event served as an excellent opportunity to highlight India’s commitment to climate goals and the significant progress made in the deployment of renewable energy sources.

24th World Energy Congress

The 24th edition of the World Energy Congress was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 9th to 12th September 2019 on the broad theme ‘Energy for Prosperity’ under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of The United Arab Emirates. Under the theme “Energy for Prosperity,” the Congress served as a global leadership forum defining a strategy for a collaborative, sustainable, and innovative energy future enabling societal, commercial, and community prosperity. WEC India and member organisation participated in the exhibition at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

23rd World Energy Congress

The 23rd World Energy Congress was held in Istanbul, Turkey from the 9th to the 13th October 2016 on the theme ‘Embracing New Frontiers’. The Congress convened some 266 world-class speakers from around the world, including over 60 government ministers and heads of state. In total, some 5000 delegates gathered in Istanbul from over 150 countries for an engaging week of sessions exploring the Grand Transition of the energy sector. Over 25 technical papers were selected from India at the Istanbul Congress

World Energy Leaders’ Summits/ Word Energy Leaders’ Dialogue

World Energy Leaders’ Summits (WELS) / Word Energy Leaders’ Dialogue are high-level exclusive events by the World Energy Council at different locations for the global energy leaders’ community. This invitation only event is for Ministers, CEOs, the Council’s Patrons, Global Partners and selected high-level guests. The platform provides opportunity for Ministers, Secretaries and CEOs in the country to present viewpoints on critical energy issues and discuss with global counterparts in a closed door setting.

Global Workshops

Global workshops organized at different locations around the world on topics related to WEC work programs and emerging areas are good opportunity to interact with experts and specialists and benefit from their insights and perspectives on issues; understand technology trends and emerging future landscape and present views.

Future Energy Leaders Program

The Future Energy Leaders Program  provides unique opportunity to select young professionals to be part of WEC exclusive programs and contribute collectively and individually.

Global Studies

WEC India members have opportunity to be part of the global study groups of WEC. These experts help shaping the agenda of the studies, contribute to content as well as critically review the final reports. 

 

World Energy Week

The World Energy Week (WEW) is an event of WEC in non-World Energy Congress years. It provides an opportunity to take stock of the commitments and progress made following the World Energy Congress

WEC Governance

WEC governance structure provides opportunity to hold important governance positions in WEC at global level. Senior officials of the Indian energy sector have held/holding important positions such as WEC Regional Vice chair, and Chair /Members of Standing Committees. The Standing Committees; Program Committee, Studies Committee and Strategy & Communications Committee are the three permanent Committees which guide the work program of the global body. Representation in these Governance Committees provides opportunity to influence the agenda for creating enhanced value for country members.
